  • Designed and developed the CareNet system, which builds an Integrated Wireless Sensor Networking Environment for Remote Healthcare Services.
  • Implemented the network communication, resource allocation, thread management, QoS, and failure recovery among the backbone network components, using C++, Embedded Linux OS, and the ACE programming environment.
  • Major tasks in this system include:
  • Design and implementation of the low latency communication among the system components, including (a) the priority-based queuing and scheduling mechanisms at each backbone component to better control communication latency; (b) the admission control and service differentiation mechanisms to ensure the quality of the admitted services and allocate the memory and network resources to various service types.
  • Design and implementation of the optimization-based network routing to improve the system performance and scalability..
  • Design and implementation of the network restoration strategies to improve the system reliability, which aims at minimizing the performance degradation and the service disruption in the event of network failures and jamming attacks.
  • Design and implementation of the service composition and recovery framework for mobile nodes, which aims at achieving minimum service disruptions for mobile ad hoc networks with uncertain node mobility.

  • Refined and developed RepositoryManager, which is a CORBA object that goes along with the Deployment And Configuration Engine (DAnCE) used for the Component Integrated ACE ORB (CIAO).
  • RepositoryManager keeps track of software versions, implementations, and configuration metadata in distributed computing environment to enable the (re)deployment and (re)configuration of applications and facilitates online component upgrades.
  • RepositoryManager allows component developers to store component packages, which include component implementations and configurations, into a named repository, and retrieve, update and delete them on demand at runtime.

• Software Engineering Internship, March 2003 - March 2004, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Hefei, China
  
  • Team member of the group that built the Integrated Network Management System, which provides upper tier network management solutions on topology, configuration, fault alarm, performance, resource allocation, and security for the lower tier network elements. It has already been put in use in the telecommunication services of Huawei Technologies in China.
  • Built the Topology Module, the Knowledge Base Module, and the Fault Sheet Module for the Integrated Network Management System, using C++ and Java programming languages and CORBA, ACE, and TAO technologies.
